Optical illusions have enthralled humans since the beginning of time. Some illusions are due to assumptions in our senses, which allow for faulty information to be formed that originated as defense mechanisms among the early humans. The ability to assume the "movement of lion in the grass" and other movements allow for a certain amount of "precognition". Other types of optical illusions are formed when light is refracted, reflected, or distorted in some other manner. There are also shapes that are impossible in our world yet can be drawn on paper. Such as the Penrose staircase or the impossible triangle.
